Mustang: Fifty Years: Celebrating America's Only True Pony Car

  • Celebrate the pony car.
  • For gear heads.
  • Ford aficionados.
  • Hardcover.
  • 256 pages.
In the early 1960s, Lee Iacocca—then director of the Ford division at Ford Motor Company—convinced Henry Ford II to produce a sporty four-seat car aimed at the emerging youth market. That car, essentially a reconfigured and re-skinned Falcon economy car, became the Ford Mustang, and it changed the automotive world like no other car before or since. In Mustang: Fifty Years, acclaimed Mustang writer Donald Farr celebrates this unbroken lineage of muscle: its phenomenal first-year sales, the new “pony car” genre it pioneered, and subsequent models that include the Mustang GT, Shelby GT350, Shelby GT500, Super Cobra Jet, Boss 302 and Boss 429—all part of a line of American performance cars that continues on to this day. With 400 photos of the USA’s iconic sports car and released in tandem with the Mustang’s 50th anniversary, Mustang: Fifty Years is a must on the bookshelf of any gearhead or Ford aficionado.

What Was Your Favorite Mustang? Edsel B. Ford II Weighs In

"You hear people say that all the time. Everyone has a favorite Mustang. Whether it was the first Mustang you owned, the classic Mustang that you always wanted, or the Mustang that roared by you as you sat amazed in the grandstand, there are as many favorite Mustang stories as there were cars built over the last 50 years. Now it’s time to get personal. On December 27, 1964, my father pulled up to the front door of our home. When I looked outside, there was a pearlescent white 1965 Mustang GT fastback. I was speechless! For you, the memory may be just as vivid. After all, what other car has captured the imagination of the American public? From songs like “Mustang Sally” and “First Gear” to movies like Bullitt, Diamonds Are Forever, Bull Durham, and Gone in 60 Seconds, to two U. S. postage stamps, Mustang has become ingrained, not just in American car culture, but in American culture itself. I think about the legendary names that have been part of Mustang’s history. Our cars: the Bosses, King Cobra, SVT Cobra, SVO, Bullitt, Mach I, FR500, GT500, Cobra Jet. The Shelby cars: GT350, GT500-H, GT500-KR, Roush, Steeda, Saleen. Legendary racing names . . . close friends like Carroll Shelby, Mickey Thompson, Jack Roush, Bud Moore, and Bob Tasca, along with legendary race drivers Parnelli Jones, George Follmer, Scott Pruett, Tommy Kendall, John Force, Bob Glidden, Dan Gurney, Jerry Titus, and so many more. Since its stunning debut at the New York World’s Fair in April 1964 to the latest models Ford Motor Company produces today, Mustang has been a car for all people: men and women, young and old, collector or cruiser, racer or restorer. I’ve been fortunate in my life to attend many great Mustang events and have loved to talk about this great car with so many of you. We share a wonderful passion for a great car, and although this book celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, I know we will be able to share many more Mustang memories in the decades to come. Enjoy!"

FROM THE NEWS BUREAU (Ford Division of Ford Motor Company - April 16, 1964): Styling and features of expensive European road cars are combined with an American mass-production price, compact economy, and traditional Ford quality in the Mustang—a new line of cars from Ford Division of Ford Motor Company. Iacocca, Ford Motor Company vice president and Ford Division general manager. “Starting with the economical, fun-to-drive basic Mustang, the buyer may select options to give him a sports car for street or competition use, or a lux ury car geared to either economy or performance. ” Mustang options available to the performanceminded include a select ion of three V-8 engines with up to 271 horsepower, four-speed transmission, quick-ratio steering, Rally-Pac with tachometer and clock, limitedslip d ifferential, and a special handling suspension, and sports tires. GREAT book – Beware of poor packaging for shipping from Amazon!, October 19, 2013

Awesome book… BUT this is to forewarn any purists who want to order this great book and want it to arrive in prime, undamaged condition… Amazon’s idea of proper packaging for this fine hard-cover book is to drop it in a box that is too big for it and then drop some bubble wrap on top of it. I have ordered and returned 2 (two!) of these books – they both arrived the SAME way. If yours arrives with bent corners and/or other damage, send it back! I have been told there is nothing they (Amazon) can do about it but to refund me. So I took the refund and bought the book direct from the author – autographed too! Sure you pay more, but it goes to HIM – search for him, he accepts Paypal. I can only imagine how many damaged copies of this book Amazon will be getting back. VERY, VERY SAD.

Excellent. I could stop there, but buyers are looking for more. The book is physically awesome, with very thick pages and a hardbound cover. Donald Farr put every bit of his vast knowledge of the FORD Mustang into this book. With many, many photos from the factory archives, as well as pictures and stories from those who used these cars in all types of Automotive sports, it will take hours to read through the text and absorb the pictures. Most of the pictures are in color, with captions detailing the “who, what, and where”. This book tells the Mustang story from the beginning “ideas” and design studies, several years before production began, to the latest offerings from the company known as Ford Motor Company.

it is a joy to thumb through, and a must-have for any Mustang automobile enthusiast.

I have been a Mustang enthusiast for 28 years. There is much I know about the Mustang already, and things I am always learning. Donald Farr does a wonderful job putting a lot of information in a commemorative book, one that you will want to keep out on your coffee table for others to peruse. Farr seamlessly builds the stories, and moves from generation to generation, with Shelbys, special Mustang, Press Releases, and Automotive (and other magazine) reviews sprinkled in along the timelines. The back of the book introduces you to Mustangs and racing, as well as the Mustang in TV and movies (my favorites being Steve McQueen in Bullitt, and the 1967 Fastback in Spencer, for Hire).

I recommend this book to every Mustang enthusiast, even though you might know it all already. It puts it together in a beautiful package, worthy of 50 years of Mustang. If you aren’t an enthusiast, but want to know about the history of Ford’s incredible Mustang, this is the best place to start, and may be all you ever need to read to understand how the Mustang was born, and how it has survived 50 years and running!

Tattoo Girl Says

Not long ago, tattoos have seen an increase in interest. They have persisted since back then yet you'll find that there's a distinctive love-hate correlation when it concerns tattoos. There are those that understand them as a form of beauty and a means to showcase oneself yet others affiliate a deficiency of morals as well as other unpleasant qualities to those people who have tattoos. Disregarding their proclivity, we all know that tattoos have actually been enduring and will even carry on doing so for many years to come. At this point, you'll notice generally more people who sport a tattoo or at a minimum, deciding on getting one than in the past. Generally, the appeal that tattoos provide is a lot more appreciated by young adults and acquiring a tattoo that is quite competently designed would surely add on to it.

Unfortunately, a different way of regarding tattoos is really one which may cast them in a negative light. This acknowledges tattoos, most notably outlandish kinds, as a detail that reduces somebody's degree of professionalism especially in the work place. In such a case, possessing an exposed tattoo may possibly damage the chances of you securing a stable career. Naturally, this will depend on the manager's view on tattoos. A person who has any kind of tattoos inside of the confines of the office suit she or he is dressing up in is not going to encounter much problems as it is not apparent to other people in plain sight. Hence, tattoo placement is still quite essential nowadays and individuals who do not comply with these unmentioned standards might lose out. Tattoos in intimate regions are typically more sought for since they may be visible only by the people close towards the wearer.

When getting a tattoo, a specific thing that needs adequate advanced planning is your tattoo designs. Heart-felt text and symbolic artistic renditions are still the most prevalent types of tattoo designs simply because they hold their own even in 50 years. When you choose tattoo designs which offers ambiguous interpretations to the observer, you could potentially match them to whatever you are experiencing at the moment. "Cliched" designs should generally be steered clear of as they quite simply will likely not stand the test of time. Adding to that, you will be better off not getting tattoos which demonstrates very sensitive or taboo matters if you plan to stay away from complications.

A tasteful tattoo is usually elegant, fulfilling and great to admire whereas an inferior work could easily turn you into a small kid's artwork; not quite half decent but your nearest and dearest might just simply say otherwise. For this reason, much like any other thing that we do, groundwork is very important. You should never make purchasing a tattoo an impulsive decision. Do spend some time and seek information or recommendations to help you in your selection. If you give it your all, the result will be fruitful.
